Rapid City, S.D. –This week the Rapid City Police Department added another way for the public to send anonymous crime tips, with the launch of a free Tip411 app for Apple devices.
The RCPD launched Tip411 in July 2011, to allow citizens to send anonymous tips to police via text message or the Internet. Now, anyone with an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch can also use the free app to send information.
To download the app, open the iTunes store and search “RCPD Tips.”
Citizens can now send anonymous tips by:
· Using the free Apple app, available in the iTunes store.
· Texting ‘RCPD’ and the info to 847411.
All messages sent via Tip411 are routed through a third party and stripped of any identifying information (phone number, IP address, etc) before being delivered to police. The program is not monitored 24/7, and should not be used as a replacement for dialing 911 in an emergency, or for an incident happening live.
There is no cost to the public to submit tips, though standard text messaging rates from the user’s mobile provider may apply.
