May 23 - Police Arrest Wanted High-Risk Sex Offender

Rapid City, S.D. –Yesterday Rapid City Police arrested a high-risk sex offender who failed to register. Edward Wayne Morris, age 32 of Belle Fourche, was released from prison in February, prompting a warning from the South Dakota Department of Corrections that Morris was considered a high risk to reoffend, and that he planned to live in Sioux Falls.

Morris told authorities he was staying in a Sioux Falls hotel, but when law enforcement arrived for a compliance check, Morris was not there. The Sioux Falls Police Department contacted the RCPD yesterday afternoon, after receiving a tip that Morris was on a bus headed for Rapid City. Rapid City Police arrested Morris when he got off the bus at 5:30 p.m., transporting him to Pennington County Jail on a warrant for failure to register as a sex offender. Morris is now awaiting extradition to Sioux Falls.
