At 8 a.m. on May 9, the Rapid City Police Department and the Rapid City Fire Department responded to a traffic accident at the intersection of E. St. Patrick Street and Hawthorne Drive.

A motorcycle was eastbound on E. St. Patrick Street when it was struck by a southbound Ford pickup attempting to cross the street. The driver of the motorcycle was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital where he died of his injuries sustained in the accident. The driver of the pickup was not injured.

Names of both drivers are being withheld at this time, pending notification of family.

This accident remains under investigation by the RCPD Critical Accident Reconstruction Team.
