Rapid City, S.D. –The Rapid City Police Department and Pennington County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the homicide of Morgan Myers.
Myers, a 30-year-old Rapid City woman, was stabbed to death yesterday afternoon in a parking lot at 1200 N. Lacrosse. An autopsy was conducted this morning, and the cause of death was determined to be a knife wound to the chest. The autopsy also revealed that Myers was pregnant at the time of her death.
The suspect, 30-year-old Michael Andrew Young, is currently in critical condition at Rapid City Regional Hospital, where he is being detained by law enforcement.
Both Myers and Young were employees of Walmart, though Young was terminated from his employment earlier this month. Myers and Young were also involved in a previous relationship, and Myers was granted a permanent protection order against Young on April 20.
Should Young’s condition improve to the point of being released from the hospital, police expect to arrest Young on the charges of first degree murder, fetal homicide, and violation of a protection order.
The case remains under investigation by the Rapid City Police Department and Pennington County Sheriff’s Office. Both the RCPD and PCSO would like to thank the many members of the public who assisted on scene and have cooperated with detectives. If anyone has additional information about this incident, they are encouraged to contact the RCPD at 394-4133 or the PSCO at 394-6115.
