April 27 - Victim, Suspect in Homicide Investigation Identified

Rapid City, S.D. –The victim in yesterday’s homicide case has been identified as Morgan Myers, 30, of Rapid City. The suspect, Michael Young, 30, of Rapid City, is currently in critical condition at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Young is being detained by law enforcement at the hospital.
At 3:18 p.m. on April 26, Rapid City police were called to Walmart at 1200 N. Lacrosse St. for a report of a stabbing. An officer was on scene almost immediately, and found Myers with multiple stab wounds in the parking lot.
Young was still on scene and fled when officers arrived. Police and a South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper chased him north to the Days Inn at 1570 N. Lacrosse, where he locked himself in a bathroom. When law enforcement made entry, they found Young with self-inflicted stab wounds.
Myers was transported by ambulance to Rapid City Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.
The case remains under investigation by the Rapid City Police Department and Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
