Jan. 16 - Police Respond to Five-Car Injury Accident

Rapid City, S.D. – At 2:02 p.m. on Jan. 15, the Rapid City Police Department and Rapid City Fire Department responded to an injury accident at the intersection of Haines Avenue and Disk Drive.

The driver of a 1979 Monte Carlo was northbound on Haines Avenue, and failed to stop for other vehicles stopped at a red light. The Monte Carlo struck and pushed a 2003 Toyota Sequoia, driven by Katrina Wagner, age 36 of Rapid City, through the intersection. The Sequoia collided with an eastbound 2008 Ford Focus, driven by John Phelan, age 69 of Hot Springs, and then struck a 2004 Subaru Forester, driven by Linda Drye, age 39 of Rapid City. The Sequoia then struck a southbound 2009 Jeep Liberty, driven by Donna Klapperich, age 47 of Rapid City.

The driver of the Monte Carlo fled the scene on foot. He has been identified as Seth Dismounts Thrice, age 24 of Rapid City. Dismounts Thrice has yet to be located at this time. However, it is likely he sustained significant injuries as a result of this crash. Two passengers in the Monte Carlo were transported to Regional Hospital, with life threatening injuries. Telano War Bonnett, 21, and Rudolph Gabe 28, both of Rapid City, were treated at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

The driver of the Toyota Sequoia was transported to Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. All other drivers and passengers were treated at the scene. Alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors in this accident.

The Monte Carlo, Subaru Forester, Toyota Sequoia had to be towed from the scene. The intersection was shut down during this investigation from the time of the accident to approximately 5:45 p.m. to allow investigators to gather evidence at the scene.

The driver of the Monte Carlo has not been located at this time. This accident remains under investigation. If anyone has information regarding the whereabouts of Seth Dismounts Thrice, they are encouraged to contact police at 394-4134.
