The Rapid City Police Department, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the Pennington County Sheriff's Office conducted a DWI checkpoint in Rapid City on Friday, August 3, 2007, from 11:45 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. During the checkpoint, 1,253 cars were checked for intoxicated drivers. Out of those 1,253 cars, there were 16 arrests for DWI, one arrest for possession of marijuana, one arrest for minor consuming and several citations for seatbelt violations.
With the Sturgis Rally traffic in the Rapid City area, law enforcement will be aggressively enforcing all traffic laws in western South Dakota.
