April 12, 2011 - *Update * -Four-Vehicle Accident on West Boulevard and Omaha

Rapid City, S.D. – On April 12 at 9:30 a.m., the Rapid City Police Department and Rapid City Fire Department responded to a four-vehicle accident at the intersection of West Boulevard and Omaha.
Three vehicles were waiting in line at the stoplight on Interstate 190/West Boulevard, facing south, when a 1990 Dodge van drove into the back of the third vehicle, a 2005 Ford F150 truck. According to witnesses, the van was traveling in excess of 40 miles per hour when it struck the truck.
The driver of the van, a 48-year-old woman from Piedmont, was transported by ambulance to Rapid City Regional Hospital and is currently listed in critical condition. *The driver later died at the hospital. The name of the driver is not being released pending notification of the family. * The occupants of the other three vehicles sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Investigation into the accident is continuing.
