April 4, 2011 - Rapid City Man Arrested for Aggravated Assault
|
Rapid City, S.D. – On Saturday, April 2, Rapid City police took a 27-year-old man into custody for aggravated assault, burglary, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
At 9:25 a.m. on April 2, officers responded to possible assault in progress. The female victim reported that her ex-boyfriend entered her apartment and alternately pointed a handgun at her and at himself. She was able to use her cell phone to call for help.
When officers arrived, the victim had locked herself in the bathroom. The suspect, Jerommi Rodriguez, had fled the scene in the victim’s car. Rodriguez later drove the stolen vehicle to the Public Safety Building, where he turned himself in.
Rodriguez told officers he had made a copy of the victim’s apartment key without her knowledge. He also reported throwing the gun into Rapid Creek before coming to the Public Safety Building. The Rapid City/Pennington County Water Rescue Team retrieved the gun. Rodriguez is currently being held in the Pennington County Jail.
