March 10, 2011 - Two Arrested in Connection with Multiple Assaults

Rapid City, S.D. – This morning Rapid City Police arrested two suspects in connection with multiple assaults that occurred overnight. James Zollar, 24, and Alexander Salway, 27, both of Rapid City, were taken into custody.

At 11:15 p.m. on March 9, Rapid City Police responded to a report of an assault on the 800 block of West Main Street.  Witnesses reported seeing four male subjects cross the street and attack two people standing outside.

The suspects fled the scene before officers arrived, but witnesses were able to describe the suspects in detail, including the license plate number of the suspect vehicle. The victims, a 35-year-old male and 35-year-old female, were transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

At approximately 12:55 a.m., officers responded to a report of an assault at 1715 North Lacrosse St.  The victim, a 22-year-old male, was uncooperative and refused medical attention.  A witness was able to describe the suspects and provide their license plate number, which matched the suspects in the earlier attack.

South Dakota Highway Patrol located the suspect vehicle on North Haines at 1:05 a.m.  The driver, James Zollar, was arrested for DUI and simple assault.  Alexander Salway was also arrested for simple assault. The investigation is continuing.
