October 17, 2010 - Fatality Crash at Rapp Street & Eglin Drive

On 10-16-2010, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Rapid City Police Department along with the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Rapid City Fire Department and the SD Highway Patrol, responded to a one vehicle crash near the intersection of Rapp Street and Eglin Drive. A 2000 Mitsubishi Montero driven by 18 year-old Jeremiah Flying By, of Rapid City, failed to turn at the intersection, where it left the roadway and struck a light pole. There were five passengers in the vehicle with Flying By. One of the passengers, Darryl Terkildsen, 18, was transported to Regional Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. Another passenger, Angelita Elk Boy, was still at the scene when officers arrived. Flying By and the other three passengers fled the scene. Flying By was located at a residence shortly after the crash.
Flying By has been arrested and charged with the following offenses:
Vehicular Homicide
DUI
Felony Hit and Run
Reckless Driving
The crash is being investigated by the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team. This is a joint effort between the SD Highway Patrol, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, and Rapid City Police Department.
