On June 10, 2010, at approximately 12:24 a.m., the Rapid City Police Department and Rapid City Fire and Emergency Services responded to a vehicle / pedestrian crash on Seger Drive east of LaCrosse Street, Rapid City.
A 1998 Jeep Cherokee driven by Mykel Walker, age 25, of Rapid City, was eastbound on Seger Drive with a second vehicle approaching from the west. Mr. Walker came upon a 17 year-old male also eastbound on Seger Drive, riding a skateboard in the driving lane. The skateboarder was struck by the Jeep Cherokee.
The 17 year old was taken to Rapid City Regional Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
His identity will be released pending notification of family. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash and at this time it does not appear any charges will be forthcoming.
The Rapid City Police Department would like to remind motorists and pedestrians of the dangers of nighttime conditions. Motorists need to be mindful of reduced visibility and pedestrians are encouraged to wear reflective material to aid in their safety.
The Rapid City Police Department’s Critical Accident Reconstruction Team is conducting the investigation.
