February 1, 2010 - Alcohol Compliance Check

During the evening hours of Friday, January 29, 2010, the Rapid City Police Department conducted compliance checks of alcohol establishments.  A total of 11 establishments were checked, six of the establishments were found to be in compliance. Five of the establishments, Black Hills Coffee Company at 5955 S. Highway 16 Suite G, Uncork’D Wine & Tapas Bar at 5734 Sheridan Lake Road #207, Autumn Hills Liquor at 5312 Sheridan Lake Road #103, Common Cents at 2808 Sheridan Lake Road, and Meadowood Lounge at 3809 Sturgis Road sold alcohol to an underage police informant.  The sellers Christopher Florentz (age 24), an employee of Black Hills Coffee Company, Sally Austin (age 34), an employee of Uncork’D Wine & Tapas Bar, Quentin Miles (age 66), an employee of Autumn Hills Liquor, Timothy Haugo (age 28), an employee of Common Cents and Rebecca Walters (age 36), an employee of Meadowood Lounge, were issued court appearance citations.  Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor is a Class 2 misdemeanor punishable by 30 days in jail, a $500.00 fine or both.  The following establishments were in compliance:

                    4. Canyon Lake Pub & Casino                                    4116 Jackson Blvd.
                    5. Canyon Lake Liquors                                               4244 Canyon Lake Drive
                    6. Rapid City Civic Center/Stock Show                      444 N. Mt. Rushmore Road 
            
The Rapid City Police Department is committed to excellence in public safety. Protecting the youth in the community is a priority and we will continue to conduct compliance checks in efforts to reduce underage consumption of alcohol. Since January 1, 2010, a total of 5 alcohol establishments have failed alcohol compliance checks by selling to underage police informants.
