December 30, 2009 - New Year's Eve
|
The Rapid City Police Department has taken steps to deal with the increased amount of calls for service over the New Year’s Eve holiday. Additional patrol officers have been assigned to work, including officers conducting a DUI saturation effort. Overtime funding from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety will be utilized in an effort to increase the visibility and enforcement activity of patrol officers.
It is expected there will be an increase in citizens out celebrating due to the combination of New Year’s Eve falling on Thursday night, and New Year’s Day on Friday.
Everyone is encouraged to use taxis and shuttle services if they have been drinking. Setting a plan to use a designated driver before the drinking begins is also highly encouraged.
The Rapid City Police Department urges everyone to drive safe, buckle up, and please do not drink and drive.
