December 8, 2009 - Traffic Crash - E. St. Patrick St. & S. Valley Drive - Second Update

On 12-08-09, the Rapid City Police Department responded to a three vehicle crash at the intersection of E. St. Patrick Street and S.Valley Drive.
A FedEx tractor with trailer was eastbound on E. St. Patrick Street when witnesses said it ran the red light and struck a southbound 2006 Jeep Cherokee driven by Debra Patino, age 51, of Rapid City. The truck also struck a northbound Chevrolet Impala driven by Kristi Wolf, 24, of New Underwood. The Impala sustained minor damage and the Jeep Cherokee was totaled in the crash. The truck, driven by Rodney Berg, 51, of Sturgis, also struck light poles and traffic signal poles as it jackknifed in the intersection. The gas tank of the tractor was torn open causing a fuel spill in the roadway.
Rodney Berg was issued a citation for a red light violation. Wolf and Patino were transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
All drivers were wearing seatbelts.
The intersection remained closed for approximately two hours while crews worked to clean up the area.
