October 8, 2009 - Traffic Crash on Herman Street

On October 8, 2009, at approximately 11:40 a.m., the Rapid City Police Department responded to an injury crash in the area of 1200 Herman Street.  A 1996 Ford Taurus driven by Dustin RunsAfter, 24, of Rapid City, was southbound on Herman Street, when he lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree.  The passenger in the car, Janice RunsAfter, suffered non-life threatening injuries as a result of the crash.  Dustin RunsAfter left the scene of the crash and was located a short distance away after being identified by witnesses to the crash.  In addition to this crash, Dustin RunsAfter is accused of running into a parked car in the 1400 block of Herman Street, and striking a postal delivery vehicle in the 1600 block of Herman Street.

Witnesses to the crash indicated RunsAfter was passed out in the driver’s seat when he struck the postal delivery truck.  After striking the tree, witnesses indicated RunsAfter removed something from the front passenger compartment and placed it in the trunk of his car.  A search of the trunk found two cans of 3M Dusting Cleaner.  RunsAfter was arrested and charged with the following offenses:

                                      Driving Under the Influence, Felony
                                      Vehicular Battery, Felony
                                      Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Felony
                                      Two other Hit and Run charges
                                      Driving Under Revocation
                                      Reckless Driving
                                      No Insurance
