June 16, 2009 - Car / Bicycle Accident - Arrowhead Drive

On 6/16/09 at approximately 11:18 a.m. the Rapid City Police Department responded to a car / bicycle accident on Arrowhead Drive near Central Blvd.
A 7 year old male rode a bicycle from the driveway onto Arrowhead Drive where he was struck by a Buick Rendezvous driven by John Arneson, 80, of Rapid City. The driver of the Buick was unable to see the child due to a large vehicle that was parked alongside the road. As a result of the accident, the child and bicycle were pinned beneath the Buick Rendezvous. The Rapid City Fire Department freed the child from beneath the vehicle, and he was taken to Regional Hospital. He is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
According to witnesses, the child was playing with other children in the area and rode out into the street and was struck by the vehicle.
Speed and alcohol are not factors in the accident. No criminal charges are pending.
