On May 22, 2009 the Rapid City Police Department in conjunction with the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and 911 Communications, conducted two DUI checkpoints in Rapid City. One of the checkpoints was located on 400 block of E. Saint Patrick Street. The second checkpoint was located near the 1400 block of Fifth Street.

The results of the checkpoints were:

     337 Cars checked in the checkpoint
     14 Arrests made for Driving Under the Influence, 4 of those arrests were for a 2nd Offense DUI 
     3 Minor Consuming Citations

Additional charges for the DUI arrests included:

     1 Open Container in a Motor Vehicle
     1 Warrant for failure to pay Child Support
     1 No Drivers License
     1 Driving Under Suspension

Additionally, the RCPD would like to thank the many volunteers who contributed to this effort. The RCPD Cadets and RCPD Auxiliary assisted tremendously with this effort. Volunteers from MADD were also on scene assisting.
