April 29, 2009 - Alcohol Compliance Check

During the evening hours of Tuesday, April 28, 2009 the Rapid City Police Department conducted compliance checks of alcohol establishments. A total of 12 establishments were checked, 9 of the establishments were found to be in compliance. Three of the establishments, Corner Pantry at 1220 E. St. Patrick Steet, RC Liquors at 1512 E. St. Patrick Street, and the Valley Sports Bar at 1865 South Valley Drive sold alcohol to underage police informants. The sellers, Jackie Jones (age 55), an employee of Corner Pantry, Harlan Raab (age 60), an employee of RC Liquors, and Alex Burnett (age 22), an employee of Valley Sports Bar, were issued court appearance citations. Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor is a Class 2 misdemeanor punishable by 30 days in jail, a $500.00 fine or both. The following establishments were in compliance:
1. Bully Blends Coffee and Tea Shop - 410 5th Street.
2. Loaf ‘N Jug - 1627 Mt. Rushmore Road
3. Pizza Hut - 2005 Mt. Rushmore Road
4. Safeway - 2120 Mt. Rushmore Road
5. Casa Real - 2315 Mt. Rushmore Road
6. Moose Club - 841 E. St. Patrick Street
7. Boyd’s Liquor - 909 E. St. Patrick Street
8. Happy Jack’s East - 909 E. St. Patrick Street
9. East Saint Patrick Casino - 1226 E. St. Patrick Street
The Rapid City Police Department is committed to excellence in public safety. Protecting the youth in the community is a priority and we will continue to conduct compliance checks in efforts to reduce underage consumption of alcohol. Since January 1, 2009, a total of eight alcohol establishments have failed alcohol compliance checks by selling to underage police informants.
