April 25, 2009 - Injury Accident
|
On April 25, 2009 at approximately 3:00 p.m. the Rapid City Police Department responded to an injury accident in the parking lot of 915 E. Saint Patrick Street. The grandmother of three children had parked her vehicle in front of one of the businesses in this shopping center. The manual transmission vehicle had been turned off and the parking brake had been applied. The three children were left unattended, inside the vehicle, for a short amount of time.
The vehicle was somehow knocked out of gear and began to roll down the slight grade in the parking lot. A child from inside the vehicle attempted to stop it from rolling and opened up the driver’s door. When the grandmother exited the store she saw that her vehicle was rolling down the parking lot with her eight year old granddaughter hanging onto the driver’s seat and the child’s legs were outside the vehicle. The child fell out of the vehicle and the front driver’s side wheel rolled on top of the child’s left leg and stopped. Two bystanders came to the child’s rescue and lifted the vehicle off the child.
The child was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.
No charges are pending at this time.
