April 20, 2009 - Stabbing

On 04-20-09 at about 1:24 p.m. officers responded to a disturbance call involving three men on the sidewalk in the 500 block of 7th Street. At 1:28 p.m. dispatch received a second call that a stabbing had just occurred at that location. Officers arrived and located two adult males in Art Alley that had sustained stab wounds from a knife. One had received a puncture to his neck. He was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital where he was admitted and is in surgery. His name is not being released at this time. The other male had minor cuts to his arm. He has been identified as Durell Rooks, age 33, of Rapid City. Mr. Rooks was arrested for Attempted Robbery, and for Assaulting a Responding Law Enforcement Officer. He is in custody at the Pennington County Jail. The third male was interviewed at the Criminal Investigation Division. The incident is being investigated jointly by the Rapid City Police Department and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is on-going, and anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Rapid City Police or Pennington County Sheriff’s Office. <- Back
