March 13, 2009 - Attempted Robbery

On March 13, 2009 in the early morning hours, officers from the Rapid City Police Department were dispatched to the 800 block of LeBlanc Street in reference to a robbery complaint.  The suspect, Talon LaClaire, 20 years old of Rapid City, allegedly held a 71 year old victim at knife point demanding money.  The victim was non-compliant and fended off the suspect who retreated into the nearby residence of his girlfriend.  Police officers entered the residence and placed the suspect in custody without incident. The victim was not injured in the altercation.  The suspect remains in the Pennington County Jail pending a court appearance. He is charged with Attempted First Degree Robbery and Aggravated Assault/Domestic Violence.  The robbery charge carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and/or a $50,000.00 fine.  The felony domestic violence charge carries a maximum of 15 years in prison and/or a $30,000.00 fine.
