February 7, 2009 - DUI Checkpoint

The Rapid City Police Department with the assistance of the 911 Communications Center conducted a DUI checkpoint today between the hours of midnight and 2:30a.m. This checkpoint was conducted in the 600 block of Haines Ave. A total of 488 cars were checked and the following arrests and violations occurred:
Twelve DUI arrests – 9 Misdemeanor / 3 Felony
One Possession of Marijuana
Additional license violations included: Driving Under Revocation and Driving without a License
A total of 14 citations / charges were issued for various violations in addition to DUI
The Rapid City Police Department will continue its efforts to eradicate the problem of drinking and driving through the use of DUI checkpoints and the DUI Task Force. More DUI checkpoints will be conducted in the coming months. Please drive safely and plan for a sober ride.
