October 5, 2008 - Accident on Mount Rushmore Road and Fulton Street

On 10-05-08 at about 8:30 p.m. the Rapid City Police Department responded to the intersection of Mount Rushmore Road and Fulton Street for a vehicle that had run into a brick building. Upon arrival, officers observed a 1993 Nissan Pathfinder almost completely embedded into the north wall of 1107 Mt. Rushmore Road. The driver and owner of the Nissan was identified as 25-year-old, Jacob Edward of Rapid City. He was not injured in the crash; however, 26-year-old passenger, Josh Kushmann of Rapid City, was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital by ambulance complaining of back pain.
Witnesses stated the vehicle was observed travelling southbound on Mount Rushmore Road at a high rate of speed. The vehicle veered off the roadway, struck the curb and landed head on into the north side of the building. Jacob Edward was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Reckless Driving. The owner of the building was called to the scene in an effort to secure the building. The accident remains under investigation.
