September 24, 2008 - Falling Rock Death Investigation

The deceased female found in the Falling Rock area on September 23, 2008, just west of Highway 44, has been identified as Rhonda Larson, 44 years old, of Rapid City.
Deputies discovered her abandoned Toyota Camry in the Falling Rock area early Sunday morning on September 21, 2008, at approximately 12:41 a.m. It is not uncommon for vehicles to be parked in this area for an extended period of time. Further investigation was done and the registered owner was contacted by phone. No missing reports had been filed.
As a result of the investigation, a more extensive search was conducted of the area on September 23, 2008, at approximately 12:30 p.m. Her body was discovered approximately ¼ mile from the vehicle in rugged terrain.
The Rapid City Fire Department and Pennington County Search and Rescue assisted in the recovery of the body.
The cause of death has not been determined. An autopsy will be scheduled as part of this on-going investigation.
This case is being investigated by the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and the Rapid City Police Department.
