The 2008 Cruiser Night parade and car show activities in the downtown and Mt Rushmore Road areas will necessitate “no parking” after 5:00 p.m. on Main Street between 5th Street and Mt. Rushmore Road, and on 6th and 7th Streets between Apolda Street and St Joseph Street. These streets will be closed to vehicular traffic at 6:00 p.m. Only parade (cruise) vehicles will be allowed in the car show and staging area. Unauthorized vehicles left parked on the aforementioned streets will block parade staging and will therefore be towed.
Everyone wishing to come downtown to enjoy the car show can park in all of the available street parking spaces and parking lots outside the staging area. These streets include all of St Joseph Street and side streets south of St Joseph Street, 800-900 block Main Street, Apolda Street and side streets north of Apolda Street, CSAC parking lot, 800 Main parking lot, 500 St Joseph parking lot, etc.
St. Joseph Street will remain open for traffic until the Cruiser Night parade begins at 7:30 p.m. The parade route will involve Mt. Rushmore Road from Main Street to Cleveland Street, thus closing Mt. Rushmore Road south of Omaha to Cathedral from approximately 7:20 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Additionally, the parade will close the streets that intersect with Mt. Rushmore Road, such as St. Joseph Street, Columbus Street, St. Patrick Street, etc. To avoid delays during this time, motorists traveling through the Mt. Rushmore Road and downtown area are urged to use alternate routes, such as 5th Street, Omaha Street and Cathedral Drive.
The parade will conclude downtown. Any parade vehicles wishing to remain in the downtown area are required to park legally in designated parking stalls. Main Street, 6th Street and 7th Street will re-open for normal traffic as soon as possible.
