On Sunday, February 10, 2008 at approximately 3:00 p.m., the Rapid City Police Department received a tip from an anonymous citizen that fugitive Travis Sipes (age 20) of Rapid City was in a residence in South Rapid City. Sipes was wanted in connection with a December 18, 2007 robbery that occurred in the downtown area of Rapid City. After the robbery, Sipes fled to Montana where he stayed with friends between Missoula and Billings.
Rapid City Police Officers responded to the residence and located Sipes who was hiding in a closet. The residence is occupied by his 17 year old girlfriend. Sipes was placed in custody without incident and is being held at the Pennington County Jail. He is charged with 2nd Degree Robbery, Grand Theft, Obtaining a Controlled Substance by Theft, Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer, and an outstanding Meade County traffic warrant. Bond has been set at $50, 279.00.
