Preliminary results from an autopsy performed yesterday indicate the cause of death for Myron Rock to be possible blunt force trauma and/or strangulation.

Police have arrested Michael Hand, 18 of Rapid City, for the murder of Myron Rock.
 
July 6 - Police Investigating Suspicious Death
At 5:30 a.m. today, police were called to the Walgreens on Mountain View Road for an unknown problem. Police spoke with several subjects and located a male victim behind Cold Stone Creamery. The victim was deceased.

Rapid City Police Department Police Chief Karl Jegeris announced today that Lieutenant Don Hedrick will be promoted to Captain of the Support Services Division, effective July 7.
 
July 1 - Child Rescued, Suspect Arrested After 6-Hour Standoff
A six-hour standoff ended Tuesday night when the Rapid City/Pennington County Special Response Team (SRT) made entry to a home on the 900 block of Silver Street. The SRT was able to arrest the suspect and rescue his two-year-old hostage.

Several law enforcement agencies are currently responding to a call on Silver Street involving a barricaded subject.
 
June 27 - Police Conducting Death Investigation
Rapid City Police were called to Memorial Pond at approximately 9:30 this morning for a man floating in the water. The 55-year-old man was deceased.
 
June 18 - Fatal Fire Victim Identified
The Rapid City Police Department and Pennington County Sheriff’s Office have identified the man who died in a shed fire on June 1 as Clifford Saxton, age 54 of Rapid City.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on June 4, a Rapid City police officer conducted a vehicle stop on an ATV in the area of West Main and Sheridan Lake Road.  The ATV stopped in the parking lot of the Clock Tower Gardens Apartments at 614 Sheridan Lake Road.

During the early morning hours of 12-29-13, two individuals forcefully entered Coco Palace restaurant at 1900 N. Maple.  Once the suspects gained entry, they proceeded to steal property and vandalize the business.

The Rapid City Police Department is searching for a missing Rapid City man, last seen at his residence on the evening of June 23. Bryan Gonzalez, age 50, was discovered gone the next morning. His wife reported him missing to police that afternoon. He is believed to have left on foot, without identification, wallet, or cell phone.
 
June 26 - Final Autopsy Results in Tracke Death Investigation
Investigators recently received the final autopsy results in the death of James Tracke. The cause of death was determined to be coronary artery atherosclerosis, and the manner of death is natural.

Preliminary autopsy results reveal the cause of death for 33-year-old Eustacio Marrufo to be a single gunshot wound to the chest. Toxicology results are pending, and will take several weeks.

The Rapid City Police Department has completed the investigation of the 12-10-07 fatal accident that claimed the life of Dereamis Hughley, 65.
 
January 2, 2008 - New Year's Eve Release
The Rapid City Police Department arrested a total of 28 people over the New Year’s Eve Holiday. Of these arrests, 11 were for Driving under the Influence. This is down from 2006, when 14 people were arrested for DUI during the same time period.

 Investigators from the Rapid City Police Department and Pennington County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ambrose Horse, age 39, and Marlyn Black Bonnet, age 37, for Aiding and Abetting Attempted First Degree Murder.

Today, at approximately 12:37 p.m., Emergency Services Communications Center (9-1-1) received a call of a prone adult male in the vicinity of New York Street and North 4th Street. When officers arrived on scene, they found the adult male had been stabbed multiple times.

September 21, 2007 - Police Department Promotions
 (Rapid City, South Dakota) --- Today, Rapid City Chief of Police Steve Allender announced several new promotions and re-assignments in the Department. Two officers were promoted to the rank of Captain, one officer was promoted to Lieutenant, and three officers were promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Several other officers have also been re-assigned within the Department.

Beginning October 1, 2007, the Rapid City Police Department will be embarking on a new campaign in the ongoing effort to reduce the number of people drinking and driving in Rapid City.  In cooperation with the SD Dept. of Public Safety, the RCPD is dedicating two officers to a DUI Task Force.

June 4, 2007 - Cruiser Night 2007 this Friday, June 8th
Rapid City’s annual Cruiser Night is sponsored by the City of Rapid City and the Rapid City Police Department, and will be held on Friday, June 8th, 2007. Cruiser Night will again kick off Black Hills Overdrive. Cruiser Night is a public event, and parents and teens are especially encouraged to come and cruise together; no registration is necessary to participate. This year’s Cruiser Night begins in the west parking lot of the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Starting at 6:30 p.m., cars participating in the Cruise will assemble in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center C & D parking lots, and at 6:45 p.m. cruisers will begin staging on 8th Street.

Guns and Hoses

It's the 2nd Annual Guns-n-Hoses Blood Drive June 27-30. Last year the RC Police Department defeated the RC Fire Department by bringing in 47 more pints of blood. Please tune into B102 at 8:00am every Wednesday morning in June for "The John & Tom Show" promoting the 2nd Annual Guns-n-Hoses Blood Drive. John Niehaus and Tom Senesac are Rapid City's funniest unpaid comedians. Tune into and hear the bantering and digs between these two guys. They will have you laughing so hard your face hurts.

On May 26, 2007, at approximately 1758 hours, officers from the Rapid City Police Department responded to a report of a car/pedestrian crash at the intersection of East Boulevard and New York Street. The pedestrian involved has been identified as Jeanette Peoples of Rapid City. She is currently in stable condition at Rapid City Regional Hospital. The driver of the 1998 Chevy pickup has been identified as Cara Pilgrim of Burkburnett, Texas.

On May 26, 2007, at approximately 1758 hours, officers from the Rapid City Police Department responded to a report of a car/pedestrian crash at the intersection of East Boulevard and New York Street. The pedestrian involved in the crash was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital with significant injuries. Her status at this time is unknown.

National Police Week is May 13 th – 19 th. Every year, for the past 9 years, the Rapid City Police Department and the 28 th Security Forces Squadron have jointly put together a Memorial Service and a static display. We are doing this again this year and would like to advise you of these events.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is scheduled for Monday, May 14 th, beginning at 11:00 a.m., in Rapid City. The run will begin in Memorial Park near the Berlin Wall. The run will conclude at the front steps of the Public Safety Building, 300 Kansas City Street, Rapid City, SD. At the conclusion of the run, Detective Warren Poches will read an executive proclamation declaring May 14 th, 2007 as “Law Enforcement Torch Run Day for the South Dakota Special Olympics” in Rapid City, South Dakota.
